Our Nature, Our Dance

Why dance? For women, there are many considerations to make about “how to be” at any given time, in any given environment, in response to any given circumstance or interaction. We look to certain relatives or popular figures to emulate and become “like them”. Inside each of us, there is an expression of every single archetype of woman. In life, we look to reach a balance within ourselves of the masculine and feminine, the wise and childlike, the strong mover and the relaxed still being. In truth, balance in the living is better called homeostasis. This is a moving and flowing state where trouble is caught before it begins and goodness is distributed throughout regularly. Nothing is ever the same, like a river, the landscape and responses shift and change. This asks us to be aware of what is goodness and provide it, to work out troublesome bits and experiences. To express ourselves fully. We need routine and visceral ways to do this.

Before humans, the motions and forces and natural directions of things existed. From early humans to today, we have picked up on those motions and the ways nature shakes off the stressful experiences and pressures inherent in being on this earth. Being aware of our bodies and what they need comes with interaction. Intention. We accomplish this more often when we include activity that is fun, feels good, is inspiring and connects us to one another and something more. There’s a little girl in there that wants to dress up, feel like a super hero or feminine queen, or both at the same time. Exercise is much easier when we honor her and bring her out to play like we used to.

Dance provides such interaction with yourself, connection, and is so very mood boosting. It allows you to experience and express ALL the archetypes we carry within. It allows you to release and receive. It allows you to find PLAY in your journey to LIVE.

Try this: Dress comfortably, bare your feet and connect with the earth. Find a song, a ritual, that moves you, and move as you are called. Natural swings and circles, left and right. Bounces, shakes and steps. Let your nervous system and muscles and bones and organs integrate and support each other. Be yourself and let yourself go. Later, consciously stretch and relax muscles and areas that feel tense. Where does this happen often? What are you holding on to? Experience and take care of all of yourself. That is why we dance.
